Having trouble getting booked?

What’s up guys it’s Bangarang from Heavy Hits. Sometimes our bookings are down. We all go through it at some point in our career, and it’s okay. It can be easy to blame others for this but in some cases, this issue is the person looking back at you in the mirror. With that being said, I put together a list of some first-hand experiences I’ve witnessed that would explain why you’re not getting booked. Check it:

Bad Attitude – THIS. It’s number one because it’s the most important one of them all. The most important thing you should know about the nightlife industry is that everyone knows everyone. So if you’re a habitual trash talker, it gets around. If you’re always in a bad mood, it gets around. And to be honest, no one wants to be around that. Start generating positive energy, it’ll turn into bookings, I promise.

No One Knows Who You Are – You gotta get out of the bedroom and share your talents with the world! On nights you’re not working, you should be out networking with the other DJ’s in your area. Hit people up on social media, reach out to those who are killing it in your market. The worst that could happen is that they don’t respond. At least you can say you tried.

You’re Not There Skill Wise – And it’s okay because practice makes perfect. Spend as much time as you can watching Youtube tutorials, DJ Routines, and things like that. Along with networking w/ other DJ’s, you should also observe their style. As a DJ myself, I love watching other DJ’s play because everyone has their own style and theirs always something new you can learn.

You Party – This is a double-edged sword. We work in an industry that gives us access to all the alcohol we want. And while getting drunk is okay…it’s not acceptable before or during your set. We’ve all done it, it happens to the best of us. But making it a habit that affects your job is not ok. Basically, don’t be messed up while DJing.

You’re Not Punctual – If the venue opens at 930. The latest you should show up is 9 pm. Club owners, managers, and even the bar staff notice these things. With everything else going on in a nightclub, the music starting on time should be the last thing management should be worried about.

Anxiety – This is something that we all deal with, myself included. When you’re not getting booked, it’s easy to doubt yourself and your abilities. You should reach out to those DJ homies for a pep talk, or maybe even work on a new project. You’ve gotta break out of that shell and push yourself to not let anxiety get to you. When you’re feeling down, just keep working harder.

Hopefully, this helps out! Did I miss anything? DM me on Instagram! (Bangarang)
